29/11/16

Thanks to the joint work of major institutional stakeholders – such as the Italian Ministries of Economic Development; of Agriculture, Food and Forestry; of Education, University and Research and of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea – and the involvement of other national actors such as the Italian Agency for Territorial Cohesion, the Committee of Italian Regions and the National Technology Clusters of Green Chemistry and Agrifood, the draft of the Italian Strategy on Bioeconomy is now available for public consultation.

Promoted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Bioeconomy Strategy is part of the implementation process of the National Strategy of Smart Specialization, and in particular of its thematic areas “Health, Nutrition and Quality of Life” and “Smart, sustainable Industry, energy and environment “. It  is as well in synergy with the Italian strategy for sustainable development and its principles, in order to ensure the environmental sustainability of the economic growth.

Presented in preview by Stefano Firpo, Director General for Industrial Policy, Competitiveness and SMEs of the Ministry of Economic Development during the conference “Horizon 2020 and the bio-based industries joint undertaking (JU BBI): opportunities for jobs and growth in the Mediterranean region ” that recently took place in Ecomondo 2016, the draft of the Italian Bioeconomy Strategy is now available online on the website of the Italian Agency for Territorial Cohesion for the period of public consultation, valid until December 23rd, 2016.

The Cluster SPRING – which has always been promoting the potential of development and innovation of the national chemical industry from renewable sources – has been included from the beginning among the interlocutors who have contributed in drafting of the Strategy, believing that this initiative represents a crucial opportunity for Italy to strengthen its competitiveness and its role in promoting a sustainable growth in Europe and in the Mediterranean area.
