On October 3rd and 4th, 2024, the Golinelli Foundation in Bologna hosted the 14th edition of the International Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy (IFIB), one of the most important global events dedicated to the circular bioeconomy. Organized by Cluster Spring and Innovhub-SSI, in collaboration with Federchimica-Assobiotec, the event highlighted the crucial role of the circular bioeconomy in fostering sustainable and competitive economic development.
A key theme of this edition was the call for strategic political interventions to fully harness the potential of the bioeconomy and make the European Union more competitive and attractive on a global scale. The forum also emphasized the importance of translating scientific research excellence into industrial applications and creating a strong and innovation-friendly European market.
The event featured around 40 internationally renowned speakers and 167 participants from 22 countries, highlighting the global scope of the discussion and the growing interest in the sector.
During the event, a poster session was also held, featuring the presentation of dozens of projects. The Paola Mariani Award was granted to Mattia Colacicco from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, whose poster was recognized as the best contribution.
Additionally, Cluster SPRING had the opportunity to present several of the European projects it is involved in, including BioINSouth, COPILOT, BioReCer, and RIBES.
